This belief, which Kendi calls "anti-Blackness," is the root of all forms of racism, from individual prejudice to systemic oppression. Anti-Blackness is the belief that Black people are inferior to other races, and that they are therefore deserving of less respect, opportunity, and power.
This belief is deeply embedded in our society, and it has been used to justify centuries of slavery, segregation, and discrimination. Even today, anti-Blackness continues to shape our laws, our institutions, and our culture.
Kendi argues that we cannot truly address racism until we confront the belief in a hierarchy of human value. He calls on us to become "antiracist," which means actively working to dismantle racism in all its forms.
Becoming antiracist is not easy, but it is essential. It requires us to challenge our own beliefs and biases, and to work alongside people of color to build a more just and equitable society.
Why It's Time to Stop Pretending Racism Is the Problem is a powerful and provocative book that will change the way you think about race and racism. It is a must-read for anyone who wants to understand the root causes of racism and work to create a more just and equitable world.
