By Ashlee Vance

Elon Musk: The Kid Who Touched the Stars is a biography of the South African-born American entrepreneur and businessman Elon Musk. The book chronicles Musk's early life, his education, and his business ventures, including SpaceX, Tesla, and Neuralink.

Musk was born in Pretoria, South Africa, in 1971. He was a precocious child, and he showed an early interest in science and engineering. He attended the University of Pretoria for two years before transferring to the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a degree in physics and economics.

After graduating from college, Musk moved to Silicon Valley and founded his first company, Zip2. Zip2 was a software company that provided maps and business directories to newspapers. Musk sold Zip2 to Compaq in 1999 for $307 million.

Musk then founded PayPal, a company that allowed users to send and receive money online. PayPal was sold to eBay in 2002 for $1.5 billion.

In 2002, Musk founded SpaceX, a company that designs, manufactures, and launches rockets and spacecraft. SpaceX's goal is to make space travel more affordable and accessible.

In 2003, Musk founded Tesla, a company that manufactures electric cars. Tesla's goal is to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy.

In 2016, Musk founded Neuralink, a company that is developing implantable brain-computer interfaces. Neuralink's goal is to create devices that can help people with paralysis and other neurological conditions.

Musk is a visionary entrepreneur who is constantly pushing the boundaries of what is possible. He is a role model for young people who are interested in science, engineering, and technology.
