Abstract
This book examines the experiences of immigrant and refugee communities in postindustrial Philadelphia, exploring their struggles, successes, and the ways in which they have shaped the city's social and economic landscape. The book draws on original research conducted by a team of scholars from Temple University, as well as on the insights of community activists and leaders. It provides a nuanced and comprehensive portrait of a city that has long been a destination for immigrants and refugees, and that is now home to one of the largest and most diverse immigrant populations in the United States.
The book is divided into three parts. The first part, "Sanctuary and Struggle," examines the ways in which Philadelphia has responded to the influx of immigrants and refugees, and the challenges that these communities have faced. The second part, "Survival and Success," explores the strategies that immigrant and refugee communities have used to survive and thrive in Philadelphia. The third part, "Community and Transformation," examines the ways in which immigrant and refugee communities have shaped Philadelphia's social and economic landscape.
This book is a major contribution to the study of immigration and refugee resettlement in the United States. It provides a rich and detailed account of the experiences of immigrant and refugee communities in Philadelphia, and it offers important insights into the challenges and opportunities that these communities face.
